Plasticity, as a concept, refers to the ability to transform and be flexible; a state in which forms and structures can change and take on new shapes. This video, through the combination of overlapping images and the repetition of the face, presents a sense of fluidity and transformation in identity and appearance, blurring the boundary between reality and illusion. The artist’s face continuously oscillates between presence and absence, as if their personal identity is in a constant state of change and transformation. The use of self-portrait as the foundation of this work also reflects the artist’s inner exploration of their identity and the search for it through imagery. These images move from a fixed, static face toward something dynamic and transformable, illustrating the human capacity and readiness to change and adapt to different life experiences. This work poses a question to the viewer about the concept of “self” and its boundaries: does our identity, like plasticity, have the ability to change and adapt? And to what extent does the face we see in the mirror represent our true essence, or is it merely a temporary and changeable reflection?
